Torquay curves around its sheltered bay on the south Devon coast, the largest of the three Torbay towns. The harbour and seafront around Beacon Cove, Marina, and Victoria Parade have grand Victorian and Edwardian villas and terraces, many converted to flats and apartments. The Warberries and Wellswood above the harbour are affluent hillside areas with large period properties and sea views. St Marychurch and Babbacombe to the north have their own village-like centres with a mix of housing ages. Shiphay, Barton, and the Willows to the west provide more modern family housing on flatter ground. Chelston and Cockington to the south-west add established residential areas. The hilly terrain is a defining feature — steep roads, steps, and limited parking are common in the older areas.
House removals are the main booking type, with downsizing and retirement moves a significant proportion. Holiday home changeovers and seasonal let furnishing are major parts of the workload from spring through autumn. Flat moves in the seafront conversions are common. Furniture deliveries from distant retailers are regular given Torquay’s location. Some moves involve the steep harbour-side and hillside properties where access requires careful vehicle positioning and a helper is strongly recommended. Period furniture handling features more here than in many towns. Drivers carry blankets, straps, and trolleys on every job.
Paignton sits immediately to the south along the A3022, and the wider South Devon area is connected via the A380 South Devon Expressway to Exeter and the M5. Plymouth is reached via the A380 and A38 through Newton Abbot and Buckfastleigh. Longer moves north connect to Taunton via the M5. Drivers cover Babbacombe, St Marychurch, and Maidencombe to the north, and Chelston, Livermead, and Cockington to the south-west. Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, and Dawlish are regularly served. The seafront roads around the harbour and along Torbay Road get very busy in summer with tourist traffic. The hills above the harbour — Lincombe Drive, Middle Warberry Road, and the Warberries — involve steep gradients and tight bends. The A380 Expressway is dual carriageway from the M5 to Newton Abbot, but the stretch through Kingskerswell into Torquay narrows and can be slow. The harbour area and town centre around Fleet Street and Union Street have restricted parking and loading times. The newer estates at Shiphay and Barton sit on flatter ground with better road access.
